Lunchwrap 2015

Lunchwrap is an attempt to insert the barriers of artistic creation by approaching the canonical ideals of conception, materiality and objecthood within art as both painting and drawing by appropriating both as a sculptural practice.

This series of work derives its materials (the artist’s lunch) from a set of performance and ritualistic types of conceits; i.e. the lunch the artist always misses on Tuesdays is to be conceived as material for the next subsequent drawing until the set is declared finished.

This work literally places “you are what you eat” into physical being and literal context by displaying what the artist is eating (or not eating.) This brings to surface rich issues of use, misuse and consumption that bubble up from beneath the peppercorn ham and crushed cheerios.

Placed on top of this project is a little bit of sarcasm, freedom and comedy. Through humor one is able to disengage some of the cultural pretext that surround a topic like art production or deskilling and instead re-contextualize it into a more friendlier and approachable medium.
