Servus 2015

The sculptural objecthood of Servus is coupled with the language implied in the title. The definintion of servus, according to the Webster Dictionary is a salutation used by the early commoners when greeting their lords.

As this sculpture is viewed in an artistic context, it itself serves as this form of communication between the artist and the viewer, the artist and the viewing space, etc.

This give-and-take relationship is a narrative component in the piece as well, and stands as an analogy of the futile and impracticality of service within this relationship.
